The KC Old Boys’ Association (GA) Inc. established the George Thompson Memorial Scholarship Fund in 2008 in recognition of his remarkable life of dedication to Kingston College.

George Thompson was a legendary football coach who attended Kingston College from 1947 to 1952; he played football and later returned as the school’s football coach.  rolex replica He coached football at KC from 1964 to 1966 and from 1974 to 1982. His teams were triple champions --Manning Cup, Walker Cup and the Olivier Shield—in 1964, 1965 and 1975. He went on to become coach of the Jamaican National Football team from 1970 to 1974.

Objective of the Fund

The objective of the George Thompson Memorial Scholarship Fund is to fund two types of scholarships 1) for students currently attending Kingston College and 2) for past students or “Old Boys” attending college or university.

Each year the fund will determine, based on the return on the fund’s investments and donations made to the fund, how much is available for scholarships in the upcoming school year. An announcement will be made at the beginning of each calendar year regarding what scholarships the fund will provide in the upcoming school year.

Administration of the Fund

KCOBA (GA) Inc. will administer the fund.  rolex replica sale A Fund Committee of no less than three (3) members, appointed by the president of KCOBA (GA) Inc. for a two-year term will determine how funds are invested and how much money is available for scholarships each year. Each year a portion of the proceeds of the association’s Annual Holiday and Scholarship Dance will be deposited in the fund.  Donations will also be solicited from Old Boys’ and the general public to build up the capital in the fund.

 Scholarship awards will be financed from the interest and dividends earned on the capital in the fund. tag heuer replica uk Any interest and dividends not used for scholarships will be added to the capital of the fund.

Scholarship proceeds will be paid to Kingston College on behalf of student awardees and in the case of Old Boy scholarships, to the institution in which awardees are enrolled.

Donations to the fund can be allocated to either the capital portion or the awards portion of the fund. 

The Scholarship Committees

KCOBA (GA) Inc. will appoint a scholarship committee, which will determine the winner(s) of the Old Boys’ scholarship. Kingston College’s scholarship committee will determine the winner(s) of the high school student scholarship.

The High School Scholarships

The fund will provide at least one scholarship for a student at KC each year. The scholarship is good for one year. Each year a different recipient may be chosen but it is possible for a student to win the award more than once.  Factors that will be considered in awarding the scholarship include: Attitude, behavior, need, leadership ability, academics and athletic skill.

 Preference will be given to students in the following order: 1) represented the school in football 2) represented school in other sports 3) played intra-mural sports 4) no sports affiliation. breitling replica sale It is possible for scholarships to be awarded to students with no sports association when all other factors are considered.

At a minimum scholarships will cover the cost of one year’s activity fees but may also include additional amounts for general expenses. 

It is possible for the fund to provide more than one scholarship in a given year.

The Old Boys Scholarships

KC Old Boys who are attending courses of study beyond the high school level may be awarded Old Boy’s scholarships.  The number and amount of scholarships will be determined by how much money is available in the awards portion of the fund. 

The scholarship is good for one year. Each year a different recipient may be chosen but it is possible for one student to win the award more than once.  Factors that will be considered in awarding the scholarship include: Attitude, leadership ability, need, academics and athletic skill.
